About

How Speak Truth Cafe works

Two individuals are involved: The online missionary is a Christian with a heart for people from other cultures. The student is usually in a non-North American country, who wants to improve their English conversational skills and is willing to do so by reading the Bible during those English conversations.

Online missionaries must apply and are vetted before being assigned a student. At the same time, students also are vetted to ensure their interest and proficiency in English is at an appropriate level. We are not an English language learning organization so students who are starting their journey learning English do not become our students until they can hold a conversation in English.

Missionaries are trained in how to lead classes with Speak English Cafe using our curriculum to help guide their conversations with their assigned students.

Once a missionary and student are approved, they schedule to meet on-line within Speak English Cafe at a time they both agree on.

Experienced missionaries may work with several students in both group classes and one-on-one sessions.

The details about each student's family, country of location, spiritual status, etc. are confidential and known only by the missionary. The student can only see the missionary's first name and last name initial and Whatsapp #.

Mark Kinslow is Speak Truth Cafe's Teacher Coordinator.  Mark retired from the State of Oregon where he oversaw extensive training programs and worked to ensure trainers were prepared and supported.  He is now taking that experience and combining it with his passion to see North American Christians actively participate in the Great Commission. Through Speak Truth Cafe, Christians are given the opportunity to serve as "Online Missionaries" and Mark's heart is to see them as an integral part of our team and fully supported.

Mark and his wife live in Southwest Ohio, within walking distance of four grandkids, who are not planning to slow down anytime soon.

Statement of Faith

We believe in the historic view of Christianity, that everyone sins against God. Theologians would call this the doctrine of total depravity. This puts us all in the same boat… guilty. We can try to cover up, hide behind or justify our sins, but at the end of the day, they remain. When we live in habitual sin, we live at odds with the One who created us. That won’t work out too well for very long. Why? Because sin separates us from God and cannot go unpunished.

The good news is that God in His mercy and grace doesn’t leave us in our sins without help. He crafted an amazing redemptive plan to send His Son, Jesus, to take our punishment upon Himself by dying on a cross. He then raised Jesus on the third day, providing evidence that His plan had been accomplished. If we believe in Jesus’ death and resurrection, our sins are FORGIVEN and we are put back in right standing with God. The sin that separated us from God is eliminated and we can draw close to the One who created the universe. Instantaneously we can have life and hope.

And that is the gospel. We have life and hope because our sins have been FORGIVEN. It isn’t by anything we have done or earned or discovered. It’s by Jesus, the Great Substitute. This leads us to a lifelong commitment of loving and serving the One who saved us by His grace.

Believers in the gospel, like us at Speak Truth Cafe, spend our lives seeking to know more about Him through His Word and living out His mission as outlined through His commandments.
